RC Baja: Drivetrain and Chassis
James Cando

Plank

The annual RC Baja competition is held in April at Central Washington University. Prior to the event, students design, manufacture, and test their remote-control vehicle for the ASME RC Baja competition which consists the sprint, slalom, and motocross challenges. The drivetrain is in charge of the vehicle's speed, while the chassis is in charge of securing all the components in place and holding the total load of the vehicle.

Results
The results of the project were not as expected compared to the predicted values where the maximum speed during the test was significantly less than the requirement. However, the results of the other test were relevant to the success of the project. Overall, "Plank" survived.
Table D1. Deflection Data

The Average deflection after putting 40 lbs. of weight on the center of the chassis was 0.015 inches.
Table D2. Speed Data

The max speed of the vehicle was 14 mph and the average speed of the vehicle after five trials was 12 mph.
Table D3. Ramp Test Data

The vehicle was able to drive the ramp from 30 degrees to 70 degrees and It failed at 75 degrees. Therefore the max slope is 70 degrees.
